Your content always needs to have a keyword as it's focus. So the first thing to do is to find keywords that get alot of traffic but not too much competition.Start with a site concept keyword and then find a URL that can incorporate that keyword.
You want to ensure that there is good depth in your keyword, but that I mean it's good your site keyword has strong demand but if you are wanting to build a site of any substance you need other keywords that have less competition which can form the second tier of your site.
Having got your keyword list in place it is time to write great content. In the end content will always beat SEO as that is what Google want to see.
There are two types of content you can write. You can write as an expert in your field. If you have some business or hobby which you have mastered then content should come easily to you.Now if your audience has some understanding of your subject then the content will be of great use to them.
However think about the newbie, they might be quite lost with your content not understanding it's full meaning. To you of course it all sounds very easy but that's because you have been in the business for a while.
So this leads to the second type of content written for the newbie.Writing in this way can lead you into a niche you may know little about. This can put you in the mind set of a newbie to that niche. What sort of question would you ask if you knew very little about the subject, but just wanted answers to simple questions?
You site saves the newbie the job of doing research to find answers to those questions.Your site in effect is a hub of information that then leads the newbie to where they can get more information.Your work is getting that information together and putting it on one site.
To monetize your site you can go to experts in the field you have chosen and see if they want to advertise on your site.If you are getting good traffic then they will.
If you need inspiration as to what sort of questions people are asking in that niche then go to Yahoo Answers. Type your niche name in the search box and see what questions are being asked.
If you have done your keyword research correctly then you will find that niche in Yahoo Answers.
So please don't restrict your business to a niche that you know well.People go onto the web to get information and if your site is a hub of information you will get traffic which can be monetized.
Ensure you are writing good content though not just a sales pitch that leads to an affiliate link.Pre sell your visitor first then present the offer.Your conversation will be much higher.
